Smart onboarding

When you first start using Ventrilo, you'll be asked to share some information about yourself to help personalize your experience. Most users dutifully type out their role, interests, and background into the onboarding form.

But here's a clever shortcut: You don't have to type all that information yourself!

The LinkedIn tab trick

Here's how to save time and get better personalization:

1. During onboarding, you'll see a text area asking for your user bio

2. Without closing this tab, open a new browser tab and go to your LinkedIn profile

3. Take a moment to review your profile to ensure it's up-to-date

4. Switch back to the Ventrilo onboarding tab

You'll notice something interesting: the LinkedIn tab now appears as a square in the Context Bar. This means Ventrilo can now "see" that page and use it as context!

Now simply start typing phrases like:

• "I am a..." and watch it suggest your current role and company

• "I went to..." and see it suggest your educational background

• "I am fluent in..." for it to suggest languages from your profile

• "My expertise includes..." to get your skills and endorsements

• "I previously worked at..." to pull in your work history

Ventrilo will pull relevant information directly from your profile, making it easy to create a comprehensive bio without retyping everything.

How this works

Ventrilo's power comes from its ability to understand the context of what you're working on across tabs. When your LinkedIn profile is open, it becomes part of that context, allowing for smarter, more personalized completions and responses.

This trick works with other profile pages too - your company website, personal website, portfolio, or anywhere else that contains relevant information about you and your work.

Not only does this save you typing time, but it often results in more comprehensive personalization since your professional profiles typically contain more detailed information than you might think to include manually.
